Ohio Safe at School Victory

We did it!

The hard work of Ohio Diabetes Advocates led to House Bill 264 was signed by Governor John Kasich. HB 264 will make a huge difference in children’s lives.

Ohio law now allows school employees to volunteer to be trained to help children with diabetes with essential care tasks, including administering insulin and glucagon. The new law also ends the practice in some Ohio school districts of requiring children with diabetes to transfer to schools away from family and friends simply because they have diabetes. Now, Ohio children with diabetes can be safe at school.

Take a minute to thank Representatives Lynn Wachtmann and John Barnes, Senator Shannon Jones, and Governor Kasich for their leadership.

The work of the advocates will lead to better, safer and fairer school environment for Ohio students with diabetes.
